Watchful Hearts, Caring Hands
At AS Watson, we understand the growing concern surrounding missing elderly individuals, especially those with dementia. Our Wanderer Watchers campaign, symbolised by our mascot Brainy, is dedicated to addressing this issue in Hong Kong. With a network of over 500 stores - Watsons, PARKnSHOP, FORTRESS, and Watson’s Wine - we serve as vital detection points of lost elders within the community.
By integrating the Dementia Angel App on our mobile devices in our store network, we aim to help locate lost elders, providing peace of mind to families and caregivers in collaboration with the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Aging. Our commitment extends beyond technology; we offer training for store staff, organise community activities for dementia patients and their caregivers, and collaborate with NGOs on projects to create a Dementia Care Network to ensure that no one is left behind.
Join us in creating a supportive environment for dementia patients and their families, as we strive to be the caring presence they need.
In 2013, PARKnSHOP launched Hong Kong’s first free food coupon programme for senior citizens, in partnership with the YWCA. Elderly people receive coupons in exchange for food and daily essentials. The programme rotates through various districts in Hong Kong.
Additionally, PARKnSHOP introduced a special offer programme offering a 10% discount to seniors. Senior citizen cardholders can enjoy a 10% discount on own-brand products at our stores every Wednesday.
PARKnSHOP launched its "City Food Drive" Programme in 2013, with the aim of gathering public food donations and raising funds to support Food Angel in preparing meal boxes for those in need. We also conducted a charity drive to provide seed funding for Food Angel's Community Outreach Food Assistance Programme, which offers care and support to the underprivileged through home visits and food assistance.
Throughout the years, this programme has successfully collected essential grocery items at all PARKnSHOP stores across Hong Kong. We also matched customers' donations of "Imperial Banquet" brand items to enhance their charitable efforts. Furthermore, donation boxes were placed at the checkouts to encourage customers to contribute their loose change to help those in need.
Through this programme, as of 2022, PARKnSHOP has collected more than 1 million food items and raised funds totalling over HK$10 million to assist Food Angel in preparing hundreds of thousands of meal boxes for the needy in Hong Kong. In addition, our stores offer an Automated Food Dispenser Service, providing eligible beneficiaries with free access to chilled pre-cooked meals.
PARKnSHOP's headquarters, AS Watson Group, launched its first-ever global signature community programme, "Give a Smile," in 2018. In partnership with Operation Smile, this campaign has provided funding for surgeries for over 5,000 children who were born with a cleft lip and palate since its launch.
Since 2004, PARKnSHOP has been a part of the Red Cross' yearly "Pass-it-On" campaign. This initiative raises funds through donation boxes and souvenir sales, supporting the humanitarian efforts of the Hong Kong Red Cross.
PARKnSHOP has been encouraging MoneyBack members to donate their MoneyBack points to designated charitable organisations since 2010. These points are then converted into charitable proceeds to support various community projects.
The PARKnSHOP Volunteer Team comprises dedicated and active employees who regularly assist those in need. The team participates in various activities, including beach clean-up days, Food Angel service events, and elderly food coupon shopping days. As of 2022, the team has grown to over 200 members and collectively contributed over 2,000 service hours.
As a responsible corporate citizen, PARKnSHOP believes in nurturing environmental awareness among Hong Kong's youth, and launched the Green School Program to help instill in people at an early age the importance of environmental protection. The Programme reached its 10th anniversary in 2023.
The program provided up to HK$5,000 funding for each school running an approved green project in sustainable agriculture, energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, or ecology conservation. The program was opened to applications from all primary and special schools in Hong Kong. Throughout the years, PARKnSHOP has supported over 440 green projects.
